Joe Kelly keeps throwing at, taunting Astros until benches finally clear
With how 2020 has gone, most of the communal anger America had for the cheating, trashcan banging, World Series Champion Houston Astros seemed to seep away.
Not for Joe Kelly.
Maybe it was random, maybe it was on purpose, but the MLB schedule makers gave us a rematch of 2017’s Fall Classic early on in this shortened season. Game 1 was rolling along smoothly enough, until the sixth inning that is.
Enter Kelly. The enforcer.
After Jose Altuve popped out, Alex Bregman made his way to the dish. After falling behind 3-0, and Kelly put one behind the All-Star’s head.
All good. Might’ve just lost it out the hand. No foul play.
A couple batters later Carlos Correa took his turn at the plate. Different at-bat, similar result.
After a long staring match between the two, the game restarted. When it did, Mr. Frontier Justice got Correa to strike out to end the inning.
Then Kelly taunted him and the rest of the Houston bench.
The former World Champions took umbrage with how Kelly was carrying himself and both benches cleared. No punches were thrown, but Correa looked ready to party.
It will be interesting to see how the Astros react to getting thrown at all year long. On Tuesday it looked like they expected it, just look at how calm Bregman was as he took his base after a heater whizzed behind his head, but there has to be a tipping point.
Whatever happens, we’ll have the popcorn ready.
