  • FLIGHTPATH DISC GOLF CHALLENGE

    We will be at ANDERSON RIVER PARK on Saturday, SEPTEMBER7TH, holding a DISC GOLF TOURNAMENT, a fundraiser to help expand this greatprogram to more local schools! Flightpath Disc Golf is launching itseducational program, 18 Aces, aimed at promoting physical health and teachingdisc golf to the next generation through fun and interactive drills. Theprogram also emphasizes teamwork, self-confidence, and an appreciation fornature. Currently running at Grand Oaks Elementary School, 18 Aces will expandto Shasta Lake School and Buckeye School in the coming school year. Thisexpansion requires additional supplies like discs, baskets, and trainingmaterials. The event seeks support and sponsorship, offering benefits such astee signage, banner placements, player pack placements, and social mediashout-outs. Friends, familymembers, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other andin memory of those we’ve lost.

    The Tehama County Coordinating Council for Developmental Disabilities, St.Elizabeth Hospital, Far Northern Regional Center, and the State Council onDevelopmental Disabilities have been hosting an Emergency Preparedness Fairsince 2010.

    There are over 1,000 developmentally disabled consumers residing in TehamaCounty. Many of these people live in their own home. Disasters such asearthquakes, floods, fires, and toxic spills are striking everywhere, andpreparedness should be ongoing. We need to be prepared to both evacuate and/orshelter in place.

    The Community Center Parking Lot will have emergency vehicles and personnelfrom CHP, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Cal Fire, the Police Department, etc. Theinside booths will have representatives from many agencies such as Far NorthernRegional Center, State Council on Developmental Disabilities, 211, Red Cross,Tehama County Health Services, etc. The many agencies often have free giveawaysof items which can be used in the participants’ Go-Bags, such as toothbrushes,sunscreen, note pads, pens, and information pamphlets.

    Our success in past years has been due to the participation of all ourcommunity partners. We have had upwards to 250-300 people in attendance andanticipate that we will be able to reach that many this year.

    We Care A Lot Foundations, Vote! Project, Far Northern Regional Center, and the State Council on Developmental Disabilities are pleased to announce that we will be holding a Vote Fair in Shasta County. The fair will be in coordination with National Voter Registration Day on September 17, 2024, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The fair will be held at the City of Redding Community Room next to the City Council Chambers. Community members will have the opportunity to register to vote, learn about voting, and meet local candidates and elected officials. The Vote Fair is open to the public. We will have free hot dogs, chips, and drinks.
